Aliens In A Strange Land
Hi Everyone,
As a Christian, do you really realize what Jesus is telling us when He speaks about not being 'part of this world'? Jesus tells us that we are aliens in this world and that we are strangers here.
In 1 Peter He urges us 'as aliens and strangers' to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against our soul.
He tells us that we are not of this world. In Romans 12:2 He tells us that if we were of the world, then the world would love us, that it would love it's own. And then He says that because we are not of this world, but that He chose us 'out of the world' then the world will hate us.
In Phillipians 3:20 He tells us that our citizenship isn't even here, that it is in Heaven. And that we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Here's the biggie. In 1 John 1:15-17 He tells us NOT to love the world, neither the things that are 'in' the world. He tells us that if any man loves the world, then the love of the Father is not in him. He says that this world is passing away, and also it's lusts, but he who does the will of God lives forever. He says this again in John 15:19 and in John 17:14-15. Because we are not of this world, and do not take part in ANY of it's lusts, then the world hates us because we are like Jesus.
What are lusts? Anything that takes our eyes off of Jesus. Anything that gets in the way of a true relationship with Jesus. Anything that gets in the way of our walking in fullness with Jesus. Are you spending too much time on the computer? With music? Food? Are you overly concerned with buying clothes and what you will wear? Do you concentrate too much on collections? Do you desire any of these things, or anything else of this world, more than Jesus?
A real relationship with Jesus should be one totally centered around Him. People will call you a finatic. YOU may even think that to be finatical. Friends, Jesus is our Bridegroom. We should be so in love with Him that He's what's on our mind all the time.
I imagine that just about everyone has had a 'crush' at least once in their lives, right? What did that feel like? You were on cloud 9, right? He/She took your breath away, right? You were smiling all the time. You were filled with joy all the time. You couldn't stop talking about your 'crush'. All you wanted to do was get to know them. Spend time with them. Talk with them and spend time listening to them. To what they had to say.
Well this is how it's supposed to be with Jesus. Are you like that? Do you have that kind of relationship with Him? Are you excited for His return? ... or scared to death of it. If you don't have this kind of relationship with Jesus yet, here is what you can do to work on it.
Spend time in God's Word, the Bible. Read the first four books of the New Testiment. Get to know Him and what He did and said while He was on this earth. Read the other books of the New Testament after that and spend time learning what they had to say about Him and what He did. But most importantly, spend time talking to Him. Talk to Him and communicate with Him on a daily basis, often and regularly, building a relationship with Him. And spend time in His presence, waiting on Him. Sit quietly, waiting for Him to speak to you. To whisper to you. Spend time to get to know Him personally. He will speak to you and reveal Himself to you, if you do this.
Friends, I tell you this because I believe that if you do not have 'this kind' of relationship with Jesus, then you will not be someone that He will retrieve, when He comes back again. When He returns He will be looking for a Bride who He knows. And who knows Him. He will not come back for a lukewarm Christian who thinks that they're 'ok' because they go to church 1 to 3 times a week and the rest of the time they go their own way and don't consider Him at all the rest of the time. He will not come back for a lukewarm Christian that thinks their 'ok' because they said a sinners prayer in a church one day and walked away thinking, hey .. I'm a-okay now. And when on about their lives. If you are going your own way, making your own decisions, doing your own things, without consulting Jesus about everything, then I believe that you don't have 'this kind' of relationship and will not be someone that He will retrieve, when He comes back again. We also cannot be part of this world. If we are, if we are holding or desiring any part of this world over Jesus, I believe that you will not be someone that He will retrieve, when He comes back again.
Friends, please think about this. Please go to Jesus. Please spend time with Him opening up to Him and letting Him reveal Himself to you. He is our Bridegroom coming back to retrieve a spotless Bride. Will you be her?
Oh, don't forget that He's also Master and we are servants. He is also King. And He is also Almighty God.
Love you guys.
Lisa
